Redistricting Reform Panel at the White Whale Bookstore

Event Description

The White Whale Bookstore is hosting a panel discussion on reforming Pennsylvania’s redistricting process. The panel will include civil rights attorney and author James Lieber and Fair Districts PA speaker Doug Webster. James Lieber will discuss his new book, Victory: How Pennsylvania Beat Gerrymandering and How Other States Can Do the Same. This book describes the PA Supreme Court Case that led to the redrawing of Pennsylvania’s Congressional lines. Doug Webster will explain PA’s current redistricting process, demonstrate how it undermines democracy, and then offer a solution to the problem. He will also explain why the recent court case did not solve our problems in Pennsylvania. Finally, Doug will discuss the upcoming hearings, legislation in Harrisburg and FDPA’s strategy going forward.

Fair Districts PA is a non-partisan coalition of citizens and organizations seeking to reform PA redistricting rules by taking the process out of the hands of party leaders and putting that process into the hands of an impartial, transparent, and accountable citizens commission.
