Event Description

With several critical legislative and constitutional amendment proposals now being pushed in Harrisburg, PA citizens need to be kept up to date on latest developments involving new redistricting maps for PA Legislative and Congressional districts and a pair of proposed PA Constitution amendments:

The first proposes creating electoral districts for PA judges instead of our present system of statewide voting. It is already facing real opposition across the political aisle and from a wide range of PA good government groups, judicial reform groups and the PA Bar Association.

The second proposes creation of a new “citizens” redistricting commission, but one that would give the legislature much greater control of the entire process and the ability to take it over and draw its own maps with little or no oversight by other branches of government or the public.

Both of these present real risks to separation of powers and to our democracy. Our forum will bring participants up to date on where things stand with each of these measures and provide detailed information on what they involve and how citizens can make their voices heard on each.
