The Shape of Our Elections: Why Redistricting Matters

The Honey Brook Community Public Library is hosting a public education program on redistricting reform. A landmark 2018 State Supreme Court decision found PA congressional district maps violated the state constitution. That decision did not fix the redistricting process—the same process that created the the unconstitutional maps will be used to draw new maps after the 2020 census. And our gerrymandered State House and Senate district maps have never been fixed.

Fair Districts PA speaker Tony Crocamo will explain PA’s current redistricting process and will show how the current process undermines democracy and fairness. Tony will discuss the legislation in Harrisburg and FDPA’s suggested strategy moving forward.

Fair Districts PA is a non-partisan coalition of citizens and organizations seeking to reform PA redistricting rules by taking the process out of the hands of party leaders and putting that process into the hands of an impartial, transparent, and accountable citizens’ commission.
